Sharjah International Award for Cultural Heritage

The first edition of Sharjah International Award for Cultural Heritage has been launched to promote awareness among members of the community about the importance of preserving heritage, which is a key part of national identity. The Sharjah Institute for Heritage has announced the establishment of the Award on 30 May 2016, in the aim of preserving cultural heritage, honoring storytellers and heritage bearers for being “living human treasures” as well as protecting their cultural legacy as per international standards. This Award includes three categories and nine prizes, is a manifestation of the vision of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and is in line with His Highness’ directives on the preservation of Arab cultural heritage and promoting the values and methods of conserving it.
