Sharjah Traditional Crafts Forum
It is a cultural gathering celebrates the craftsmen and artists working in the field of traditional crafts and handicrafts since 2007. It includes the importance of preserving traditional crafts, highlighting their authenticity, offering financial and moral support to traditional crafts, developing their practices and promoting their role and contribution towards preserving local culture. This can be achieved through a great deal of study, research and documentation of local cultural heritage and traditions.
The forum includes a variety of heritage activities and scientific sessions in addition to an exhibition for the art of traditional knitting and embroidery. The forum will also highlight a live demonstration of yarn manipulation and embroidery, with the participation of experienced craftsmen.
Sharjah Institute for Heritage organizes the forum as part of its endeavor to preserve the heritage for future generations. The institute also aims to increase community awareness regarding the importance of traditional crafts and hopes to shine a light on the role these crafts can play in preserving cultural heritage. This, in summary, will help restore traditional heritage crafts, raise awareness of the heritage among young children and promote the concept of heritage tourism.
